Musings

Sometimes I enjoy being contrary. This feeling comes upon me most strongly when I am in the presence of a person who is too gullible. It is not to hurt that person, nor even to cause discomfort, but rather to help him or her to reason from a practical viewpoint.

A friend from years ago was of this bent. If she trusted a person, she accepted anything that that person said as gospel truth. In the middle of a discussion of metaphysical matters (well, at least I was discussing) I saw that she was just taking my statements at face value. There was no questioning, no challenging of my words. I suddenly stopped in mid-sentence, and said "(her name)I don't have the slightest idea whether what I am telling you is true or not." I was not prepared for the total collapse that occurred. She said, "I trusted you. If you don't know if your statements are true, how can I ever trust you again?" She was devastated. It was as if the underpinnings of her support had disappeared. She was finding her strength in other people, and not developing her own inner resources.

The danger for people who have been in a long-standing habit of relying upon the judgment of someone else is that they are lost when that support is missing. They do not generally become skeptical. They usually become cynical, trusting nothing and no one. Cynics are the opposite side of the same coin as the gullible person. They still lack discernment.

I love skeptics. In fact I prefer to think that I am a skeptic. A skeptic will challenge and reason and bring counter arguments, which makes for a lively discussion. A skeptic can be persuaded with proof. He or she may leave the discussion still skeptical, but seeds may have been planted. I will also admit that once or twice in my life even I have been in error, and a skeptic has helped me to see the folly of my ways.

Happenings and Events

Would you like a means to connect with other people who are experiencing the same type of day as you are having?

There are 9 personal year cycles. Each person is born into one of these cycles and continues in that cycle for life. Generally people in the same cycle experience similar events at the same time, and often become friends. For some time I have thought that it could be interesting to find a way to bring people of the same cycle together. It would have to be a voluntary means, easily accessible and available for those who wished to remain anonymous. It seems to me that an ideal point of contact would be a password protected discussion board.

What I would propose is 9 separate password protected Discussion Boards on the Life Path site, one for each personal year. The password could be distributed through the Daily Numeroscopes with a link directly to the appropriate Board. That way you could immediately vent your frustrations to others who understand, you could criticize or praise the numeroscope, or maybe even gain additional insight as to how others are dealing with the day. You could do this anonymously, or if you wanted to make private contact you could disclose your contact information. The choice would be yours.

I would be willing to put in the effort to set up this system if there is any interest. I think that it would be fun to connect with my fellow 4 personal year compadres. What do you think? Please respond as quickly as you can give the idea some thought. Please give me a yes or no vote. If you like the idea, how would you set it up?

A Bit of Philosophy

Herein, also, lies the advantage connected with travel and change of scene. Under these circumstances nearly every one submits himself to the suggestions of his surroundings and allows his mind to follow them without any effort at control. Removal from the old familiar environment into scenes of an entirely different character gives new suggestions which substitute new lines of thinking in place of the former habitual ones, and these changed mental conditions bring fresh stimulus to the physical system. It is change of thinking which causes the beneficial result, not change of air.

Featured Article by Daniel R. Hardt

I am not doing an article this week, but am sending what was completed. I just cannot. I received a call from my sister-in-law last night that my brother died of a heart attack yesterday. There was no indication of any problem. He went suddenly and unexpectedly at home.
