Musings

Our Monday night group went as a group to see "The Passion of
the Christ." The theater on a Monday night 2 weeks after the
release was fairly empty. As a result, the emotional build-up
that you might experience in a full house was lacking. Our group
dissipated after the showing. Most felt impacted enough that
they wished to process their response privately.

Perhaps I am somewhat satiated by the Gospel story. The film did
not have the emotional impact that most people voice. The
intensity of the beatings and the vast quantities of blood lost
during the course of the ordeal would have been more than any
person could have withstood without passing out. And certainly
this intensity would not have permitted the continuing action of
appearing before the crowd and the dragging of the cross. In my
opinion the scene was so overdone as to give it an unreal
quality that dulled the impact.

There was much to commend the movie. The lighting and the
special effects added to the tone. The general faithfulness to
the Biblical account is commendable. I did not find anti-Semitic
emphasis, although a Jewish friend and her rabbi felt that it
had shades of Hitlerian propaganda.

Hollywood seemed to be surprised at the popular success of this
movie. Perhaps this attitude shows its bias. Consider the prior
movies with a Biblical theme - Quo Vadis, Ben Hur, The Robe, The
10 Commandments, to name a few. These movies did well at the
box-office. There is speculation that a multitude of films of
this genre will now be spawned by this film. It didn't happen
after those other films mentioned. It may not happen now. After
all, how often is a producer in a position to spend
$25,000,000.00 of his own funds against the advice of his
cohorts to produce a speculative film? It is not likely that
even with the monetary gain of this film that Hollywood will
open its arms to similar ventures.

A Bit of Philosophy

I've known many, many frustrated salesmen and businessmen who
have become very charged up after reading some well-known
"success" books, only to go out, week after week, month after
month, year after year, and fail to achieve their goals,
notwithstanding the fact that they practiced the principles of
these books religiously. The illusions created by the oftentimes
flowery and enthusiastic wording are exciting, but the reality
that confronts a man when he goes out into the business-world
jungle and gets clawed and kicked is quite another thing. Such a
man becomes confused and frustrated because no one in the jungle
seems to care that he has a positive attitude or that he works
hard. His only hope is to cling to the word "ultimately;" the
books say that "ultimately" success will come.

Thomas Alva Edison Invents Himself

(These articles highlighting men and women who have had high
achievement in business allow us to take a glimpse at the
underlying
energies and how they applied these numbers to their business
interests. I trust that the example is helpful to your own
application of the numbers. In some instances the path of the
business is directly reflected in the numbers. In other
instances we can see success in spite of counter-balancing
numbers.)

The Data:

Birth Name: Thomas Alva Edison
Birth Date: February 11, 1847

Life Path 15/6
Expression 16/7
Soul Urge 11/2
Personality 14/5
Birthday 11/2
Integrative Vision 40/4

General Electric Corporation
Incorporated October 16, 1878

Life Path 12/3
Expression 20/2
Soul Urge 13/4
Personality 16/7
Birthday 16/7
Integrative Vision 22/4

With a 16/7 Expression we would expect Thomas Alva Edison to be
a seeker. He was a student of those things that he enjoyed
studying, but he could not fit into the discipline of school and
the assigned course of study. It was necessary that what he
studied that he learn it in depth. With a 14/5 personality, he
was extremely curious and learned from hands-on experience.
Added to these traits was the 11/2 birth day and soul urge,
which gave him an increased intuitive dimension. His legendary
persistence comes from the 40/4 integrative vision number.

We can see the patterns of his life in the numbers of the chart.
Although he was so absorbed by his work, home and family life
were also important to him. This is shown by his great love for
his wife. Her death was difficult for him, but the home
influence was so fulfilling (6 life path) that within a couple
years he again married.

His inventiveness was enhanced by his unique view of the world.
He could see solutions where others may not even see the
problem. His keen analytical mind took in data from observation
and from intuitive input and created something new. His master
level energy gave him remarkable insights. His willingness to
explore these impulses caused him to come up with a record
number of patents in a wide variety of fields. We all owe him a
great debt for the improved quality of our lives.

Throughout the course of his career he started and controlled a
number of different companies, but his lasting legacy is in the
General Electric Corporation. He was a major shareholder and the
guiding hand to bring it to its present greatness. The numbers
of this corporation suited him well. This compatibility again
shows the importance of matching numbers for a long term
commitment to a business. Too much conflict leads to early
burn-out.

This corporation rearranges the basic energies from Edison's
personal chart, but fits like a glove. Edison's 40/4
integrative vision number is replaced in the corporation with a
22/4 which is the master builder. The master level integrative
vision number requires that this business be dominant in its
field, that it be global in scope and that it provide a positive
gain to society. In spite of the ups and downs that any major
business will experience, this corporation has solid support in
the numbers for continued growth as long as it maintains a
strong research and development arm. (16/7 birthday and 16/7
personality). Honesty and integrity in its dealings are vital.
(13/4 soul urge and 22/4 integrative vision number)

Is it any wonder that Edison felt at home with this business and
propelled it to prominence?
